A reverse cation-exchange route to hollow PbSe nanospheres evolving from Se/[Ag.sub.2]Se core/shell colloids
Article Abstract:
A reverse cation-exchange approach is described for the synthesis of hollow PbSe nanospheres, which involves a step wise, in-situ template-based evolution from spherical amorphous Se colloids to Se/[Ag.sub.2]Se core/shell colloids, then to hollow PbSe nanospheres. The characterization results show that hollow PbSe nanospheres with polycrystalline and cubic structure are prepared and the conformation is beneficial to the improvement concerning the applications of PbSe nanostructures.

Effect of rare-earth components of the RE/Ni catalyst on the formation and nanostructure of single-walled carbon nanotubes
Article Abstract:
A systematic experimental study is carried on the efficiency of bimetallic catalysts based on Ni and the rare-earth elements Y, La, Ce, Nd, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, and Lu (group A) and Eu, Sm, Yb, and Tm (group B) in the synthesis of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). The elements in group A have an obvious catalytic effect and increase the yield of SWNTs dramatically, whereas those in group B are not efficient catalysts.
